Is Death Penalty Law an effective deterrent of criminality? Why / why not?
ART GEROCHE
GMA made that public announcement to appease the people's anger and discontentment.
AURELIO RAMOS
Yes, a classic example is when Marcos ordered the execution of a Chinese drug trafficker. For many years after that dramatic execution, the Philippines became a drug-free society. The incidence of other crimes went down considerably too.
ALAN SORIANO
Yes it is effective if only they bring to justice those people or criminals who deserve to be hanged. They should start hanging from the highest position down to the poor criminals. That will make them more consistent and they can give justice, but surely it will only happen in dreams!
ARLEEN MERCADO
Yes, because it could instill fear in the hearts of criminals and would make them think twice before committing a crime, however it is not being fully implemented.
DR. ARLENE ARDENA-BONGOSIA
Death Penalty Law curbs criminality because the root of committing crimes stem from deep psychological issues. People with these issues don't care much about dying.
ALLAN TAJANLANGIT
Death Penalty is not a good deterrent. I believe vigilance and good law enforcement is.
ALLAN RIVERA
In my opinion, the best deterrent is an honest, hard-working, conscientious, God-fearing, law-abiding, considerate, visionary, intelligent, creative society under a government with the same values. How do we achieve that? Hah... for starters let us rid our states of all the bad eggs and rotten apples. Where do we find them? From the highest echelons to the lowest, filthy gutters of society. How, what, where, when, what to do? Hah... did someone say revolution? Is there a bid? Going once... going twice... going...
BOBOT PAMPOLINA, JR.
We have rounds of convicts sentenced to death but it didn't reduce crimes. The State should exercise more police powers that will safeguard more the people. Why don't we try NATIONAL I.D. SYSTEM & VOLUNTEER DRAFTING IN THE A.F.P. It will make everybody responsible towards the State & its people.
BEN HUR MOBO III
Yes. When we look more closely, we find that it has done its job for centuries: inflict fear to those who contemplate doing and give finality to those who perpetuate unimaginable terror and heinous criminality. A definite form of social stability, order and deterrence in criminality is created in spite of society's difference in cultural and moral beliefs.
