LCP extends P50T aid to fire victims
The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP), headed by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas as president, extended P50,000 financial assistance to some 300 households affected by a huge fire in Brgy. North Baluarte, Molo recently.
Treñas said the P50,000 will be channeled to the city's trust fund. The disbursement of the funds will be based on the rules and regulations of the Commission on Audit (CoA).
Earlier, the Sangguniang Panlungsod declared Brgy. North Baluarte under state of calamity paving way for the use of its five per cent calamity fund.
The city, however, is still preparing all the needed documents in order to spend the calamity fund.
Treñas said they are contemplating of buying materials like bamboo for the affected families so that they could put up their houses.
Most families presently occupy the evacuation center inside Baluarte Elementary School.
Under the rules of the Commission on Audit (COA), local government units are not allowed to purchase construction materials such as cement and steel as form and part of relief assistance to fire victims or typhoon victims.
However, food and other relief assistance is continuously pouring for the victims.
Treñas assured the fire victims will be given 40 square meters of lot in North Baluarte.
Those who could not be accommodated in North Baluarte will be transferred to the the city's relocation site. The Iloilo City Urban Poor and Affairs Office (ICUPAO) and the barangay council of North Baluarte will facilitate the apportioning of lots for the beneficiaries.
