PGMA awards education vouchers to three elementary schools in Aklan
Kalibo, Aklan - Three public elementary schools in this province became the latest recipients of education vouchers from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday afternoon.
The President, assisted by Department of Education Secretary Fe Hidalgo, awarded 25 education vouchers to the principals of the three elementary schools during rites commemorating the 50th anniversary of the province of Aklan at the Augusto B. Legaspi Sports Center here.
The three principals and their schools are Jesus Lim of the Kalibo Elementary School, Reymia Dongines of the Kalibo District I Elementary School, and Arturo Molina of the New Buswang Elementary School.
According to Hidalgo, the education vouchers worth P4,000 each entitle 25 qualified grade six graduates from the three public elementary schools to enroll in private high schools this year.
Prior to the awarding ceremonies, the President inaugurated the newly upgraded Aklan provincial hospital now renamed Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital (DRSTMH).
With the completion of the expansion project financed by a P139- million loan, the DRSTMH is now a three-storey, 186-bed second level referral (non-teaching) tertiary hospital.
The hospital expansion project, according to Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez, is a major development in the health services program of the provincial government in line with the 10-point pro-poor agenda of the Arroyo administration.
