Legal tiff brewing over Cascades concert
The proposed concert here of an erstwhile popular American singing group is likely to be played, not in a concert hall, but within the sala of a courtroom at the Hall of Justice.
Already, a topnotch legal office here has warned of possible legal action against a Metro Manila based production outfit on behalf of a local client.
The concert in question features the Cascades, an American singing group which produced several hit songs over 40 years ago.
Sources from the local entertainment industry disclosed that Steve O'Neal Productions may have reneged on a contract it made with a local producer to bring the Cascades to Iloilo. Instead, the production outfit gave the Cascades show to another local group in exchange for a higher offer.
For several weeks now, The Cascades concert here is already being advertised extensively at the CPU Channel of Sky/Sun Cable with VJS Productions as alleged producer. This, in spite of the fact that, as early as March 2006, Steve O'Neal Production has already entered into an agreement and accepted the earnest money paid by another local producer to bring The Cascades here.
According to a highly reliable source, the law office has already threatened to bring Steve O'Neal Productions to court to protect the integrity and interest of its unnamed client and is asking for damages worth several million pesos.
Sources further said that even some partners of Steve O'Neal in Manila may be initiating their own legal suits against Steve O'Neal Productions in an effort to distance themselves from the erring outfit and the ensuing legal flak. The offended local producer is well-known in Manila's entertainment circuit as well as internationally while his legal representation is headed by a former Cabinet secretary.
Iloilo's entertainment industry came to life in January this year with the highly successful concert of The Lettermen at CPU's rose Memorial Hall and the much-acclaimed Santana ROOTS concert by the Gregg Rolie Band last April 30 at SM Iloilo City Carpark.
Sources said the same industry players responsible for bringing The Lettermen and the Santana ROOTS concert here may be involved in the lawsuit.
