Caloy destroys 3 bridges in Miag-ao
Three bridges in the municipality of Miag-ao were destroyed by floodwaters brought about by tropical storm Caloy. One of the three bridges were temporarily closed to prevent more damage.
Miag-ao OIC Mayor Raul Facon identified the three bridges as Tumagbok, Oyongan and Naulid. The municipal officials along with the inspectors of the Department of Public Works and Highways decided to close the bridges Friday. Tumagbok is located near the Southern Iloilo Polytechnic College.
Facon said the approach of the three bridges were destroyed and thus it must be closed to prevent further damage and incidents. Oyongan is located after the town of Miag-ao and Naulid bridge is located before Tumagbok bridge.
The damage on three bridges will not only affect residents of the town but also those coming from San Joaquin and the province of Antique. Highway inspectors are still checking on the extent of the damage on the three bridges.
Also in Miag-ao, seven houses were totally destroyed and three were partially damaged because of the heavy rains and strong winds.
