14 city barangays still powerless
At least 2,000 consumers of Panay Electric Company Inc. (Peco) in 14 areas in the city shall have to wait until Friday for their electricity to be restored.
Engr. Bienvinido Anatan, Peco's chief of engineering and operation said they are still on process of restoring power to the affected barangays which hopefully could be completed by Friday, May 19.
Anatan and several representatives from Peco and Panay Power Corporation on Monday were called by Mayor Jerry Treñas to explain the brownout out which affected large portions the city during the onslaught of typhoon Caloy.
The 14 areas which still suffer from brownout are Barangays Tacas, Fajardo Subdivision, Sitio Ilaya, all in Jaro district; San Isidro, Asico Compound in Luna Street, portion of Bo. Obrero, Asico-Villahermosa Subdivision in Lapaz; Anaros Subdivision in Mandurriao; Villa Anita, Zamora Extension and Duran Street in City Proper, Infante Avenue and Timawa Avenue in Molo and So-oc Daku in Arevalo.
The 14 areas constitutes 26.5 percent or more or less 2,000 consumers of the 53,000 consumers Peco is serving.
Anatan added that they have 23 feeders to clean up. Several of Peco's lines were cut-off due to fallen branches of trees. He admitted that PECO failed to trim or cut down the trees which could affect their primary lines even before the storm came.
He attributed the power outage in several areas in La Paz, Mandurriao and Jaro to the failure of the PPC's switch yard in Banuyao, La Paz. This problem has already been addressed by PPC.
