Black bug reaches Dumangas town
The menace of the rice black bug infestation seem to be far from over.
This after an official of Dumangas town confirmed the presence of rice black bugs in their municipality.
"They are all over the town," Councilor Ronald Golez told Capitol reporters Monday.
He said that the bugs, locally known as 'bakuko,' were sighted in the northern, southern, western and central parts of the town. The eastern portions of the town was spated as it is mostly fishponds, Golez said.
During a celebration in one of the barangays Sunday night,Golez said that the bugs swarmed the lights in the plaza. This came after they first received reports of a black bug infestation in their town two weeks ago.
Provincial Agriculturist Zafiro Palabrica, however, refrained from confirming that the rice black bug infestation has already affected Dumangas.
"For all we know they might just be friendly bugs," he said.
Palabrica said that he has already dispatched a team to Dumangas to confirm the reported infestation. He is waiting for the confirmation of the team any moment.
"Do not worry Honorable Golez, we will give attention to your problem," Palabrica assured, adding that the Provincial Government is ready to help Dumangas.
In the meantime, agricultural officials will not conduct light trapping operations in Dumangas pending confirmation of the reported infestation.
