City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the city government is exerting all efforts to ease the problems of residents passing everyday at the Batiano Bridge in Boulevard, Molo which now being demolished to be replaced with a new one.
Initially, a footbridge is being constructed as immediate passage for the commuters.
Treñas said they are now coordinating with the Juntado Subdivision to allow vehicles coming from Calumpang and Calaparan areas to use the area as alternative route while the bridge is being constructed. He said portions of the road was already donated to the city and it was the city government that constructed the road.
Commuters from Calumpang and Calaparan areas complained of the long route they will take if they would be made to pass by Arevalo district.
They also whine over the additional fare expenses they would have because of the closure of the bridge.
The chief executive said the construction of the footbridge is only an immediate solution to help the residents living near the bridge. He added that he has also sought the help of Barangay Arlene Espia in constructing the bamboo footbridge while the route passing Juntado is not yet opened. Once opened, the commuters will pass by Compania Molo until they can reach Molo plaza.
Meanwhile, City Engineer Marito Amatorio said it is the City Engineering District which implements the project. He has no idea on how much the project costs. He, however, said the government has allocated P400,000 for the demolition of the existing bridge which is already dilapidated.
