Dr. Juaneza is PCP Prexy
Dr. Rene I. Juaneza, an Ilonggo medical luminary is now president of the nationally prestigious Philippine College of Physicians -- an umbrella organization of internist-physicians in the country with a membership of 6,600 doctors.
The association has 12 nationwide chapters, 78 accredited residency training programs and 14 component and affiliated societies.
Juaneza, who is the very first Ilonggo to head the association, has been with it for nine years as member of the Board of Regents occupying various positions until recently as vice president.
A nationally prominent physician, Juaneza has been chair of the Philippine Specialty Board of Internal Medicine, visiting consultant of Pulmonary Department of the Philippine Heart Center, Medical Staff and consultant of the Astrazeneca Pharmaceuticals (Sweden) Inc. and president of the Philippine Foundation for Lung Health Development and Research.
Dr. Juaneza was also the first Ilonggo to be elected as chair of the Board of Examination of the Philippine Specialty Board of Internal Medicine and the second Ilonggo to be appointed its member.
A diplomate in internal medicine and also of Pulmonary medicine and fellow of the Philippine College of Physicians, Philippine College of Chest Physicians, he has also published around fifteen dissertations on various medical topics in collaboration with the doctors.
In Iloilo, he had been president of the Iloilo Medical Society, chair of the Department of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, and Pulmonary and Care Medicine -- all at Iloilo Doctors' Hospital and associate professor at Iloilo Doctors' College of Medicine.
For all these, Dr. Juaneza has been recognized by being awarded Most Outstanding Physicians of the Iloilo Medicine Society in 1986. Most Outstanding Iloilo Awardee for Medicine of the Iloilo Press Club, Inc. 1997 and lately, one of the 25 Most Outstanding Citizens of West Visayas for medicine during the 25th Anniversary of a local newspaper in 2006.
