ROXAS CITY -- The provincial government of Capiz under the administration of Gov. Vicente Bermejo bested all other provinces in Region VI (Western Visayas) in the implementation of agricultural programs.
The province was cited as Outstanding Local Government Unit (LGU) by the Department of Agriculture (DA) in an awarding ceremony held recently at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Conference Room, Iloilo City.
Receiving the award for and in behalf of Governor Bermejo was Sylvia de la Cruz, who was also conferred the award as the Most Outstanding Provincial Agriculturist in Region VI.
These two awards were considered as the most prestigious awards given during the ceremony.
Capiz has implemented pioneering projects in agriculture such as Binhian Sa Barangay, establishment of Agri-Aqua Laboratory and Demonstration Farms, construction of massive farm-to-market roads, promotion of organic farming, support to cutflower industry, organization of farmers and fishpond operators, among others. It has also excelled in providing full support to the national development agenda in agriculture.
The provincial government has also extended assistance to projects that support agriculture and fisheries in the province.
In the same awarding, the Municipality of Pres. Roxas was also awarded as Outstanding Municipality in the implementation of agricultural programs.
The municipal government headed by Mayor Raymund S. Locsin, has initiated a program that supports the activities of farmers and fishermen and recognizes their outstanding achievements through a yearly Agricultural and Fisheries Livelihood Enhancement Day.
