DA bares Gawad Saka 2006 National Winners
Mr. Carlos Dominguez, Jr. from New Lucena garnered special citation award
The Department of Agriculture announced the national winners for this year's search for "Parangal sa Natatanging Magsasaka at Mangingisda" or Gawad Saka awards. Out of the eighteen (18) categories of the search, the Board of Judges (BOJ) chose and declared only eleven (11) national winners and eight recipients of special citation awards.
The eleven national winners are: Mr. Nemecio C. Cristobal -- outstanding rice farmer from San Mateo, Isabela; Mr. Edgar de Luna -- outstanding corn farmer from Cauayan City, Isabela; Mr. Eriberto de Ocampo -- outstanding HVCC farmer from Naguillan, Isabela; Dr. Floresma A. Dacuycuy -- outstanding fisherfolk (Fish culture) from Cauayan, Isabela; Ms. Lourdes B. de la Peña -- outstanding fisherfolk ( Fish culture) from Bantayan, Cebu; Mr. Ryan L. Montanez -- outstanding young farmer from Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur; Mr. Roger S. Camarinta -- outstanding sugarcane farmer from Lantapan, Bukidnon.
The Calbayog City Agricultural and Fisheries Council (CAFC) -- outstanding City Agricultural and Fisheries Council from Calbayog City, Northern Samar; Midsalip Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative -- outstanding small farmer/fisherfolk organization from Midsalip, Zambaoanga del Sur; Motherland Food Products c/o Mr. Wilfredo Sia -- outstanding HVCC Processor from Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental; and Family of Mr. Benjamin Maputi, Sr. -- outstanding farm family from Malaybalay, Bukidnon.
The eight recipients of special citation awards are: Mr. Rogelio C. Guinto- fisherfolk (Fish culture) from Limay, Bataan; Mr. Noel C. Ramirez -- fisherfolk (Fish culture) from Pilar, Bataan; Dr. Rene Rafael C. Espino -- agricultural scientists from University of the Philippines at Los Baños College, Laguna; Mr. Thomas C. Reyes -- fisherfolk (Fish culture) from Tayabas, Quezon; Mr. Carlos P. Dominguez, Jr. -- young farmer from New Lucena, Iloilo; Ms. Editha E. Tincang -- small animal raiser from Buug, Zamboanga; Mr. Michael E. Binauro -- young farmer from Valencia City, Bukidnon; and Mr. Jose C. Alegria -- fisherfolk (Fish culture) from Lapu-lapu , Davao City.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will honor the awardees in Malacañang on June 21, 2006 at ten o'clock in the morning.
The annual search aims to give due recognition and pay tribute to dedicated individuals and institutions whose exemplary accomplishments in their respective fields of endeavor and contribution to the country's agricultural developments are deemed worthy of emulation. The national winners will receive trophy/citation, project/research grants and a Rizal Pro-Patria Medallion for agricultural scientist.
