DOST picks 8 new Capiz scholars
Roxas City -- Eight incoming freshman college students from the province of Capiz recently passed the 2006 scholarship grant of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The said eight scholars were chosen from among the 164 fourth year high school applicants to the said scholarship program after passing the written examination in Roxas City in November last year.
According to Gerbe Dellava, Science Research Specialist of DOST in Capiz, of the eight scholars, two of them are included in the agency's merit scholarship that covers the high-income category. The other six scholars belong to the low-income program under Republic Act 6687, otherwise known as the Science and Technology Scholarships.
Dellava disclosed that under the merit scholarship grant, DOST's scholars include Sherwin Escayo and Maria Nerissa Langurayan, both graduates of the Capiz National High School.
The other scholars are Pauline Grace Dela Peña, Alpha Rae Espigar, Maryl Juanch Faldas, Reymar Hinguillo, Miguelito Lipura and Diane Milagros San Antonio.
He said that all the scholars have availed of the Bachelor of Science programs in their respective schools of their choice.
As a scholar, he is entitled to financial assistance consisting of school fees, book allowance, transportation expenses, clothing allowance and monthly living allowance during the period of actual study, Dellava pointed out.
Dellava said that the RA 7687 Scholarship Award administered by the DOST-Science Education Institute is for the pursuit of a priority course in the field of science, mathematics and engineering leading to a BS degree.
