Aguilar is Outstanding Fisheries Professional
Dr. Glenn D. Aguilar
Dr. Glenn D. Aguilar, currently UP Visayas Chancellor, was recently named recipient of the 2006 Outstanding Professional of the Year Award in the field of Fisheries. This is the highest form of award given by the Professional Regulation Commission to "a professional as recommended by his/her peers for having demonstrated exceptional professional competence and integrity in the practice of his/her profession; participated meaningfully in professional activities through the professional organization; contributed significantly to the advancement of the profession and to the effective discharge of the profession's social responsibility through meaningful contribution/participation in socio-civic activities."
Dr. Aguilar is Professor IV at the Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanology at the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences of UPV. A Doctor of Engineering with a concentration in Ocean Engineering, he is a prolific researcher whose studies impact the marine industry and ocean ecology of the country. Some of these significant researches are: "The Marine Transportation System: A Country Report," "Philippine Fishing Vessels and Fisheries Code of 1998: Issue and Challenges," "Marine Transportation and Safety in Archipelagic Studies Charting New Waters," and "Catamaran design development and FRP construction using a katsa mold."
His previous recognitions include: UP Alumni Association 2004 Professional Award in Fisheries, DA-BAR Director's Award in 2002, AFMA Outstanding Paper Award in 2001, and Marquis Who's Who in the World 2000-2005. He recently completed a Fulbright Visiting Research Fellowship at the Oregon State University from August 2004 -- May 2005.
Dr. Aguilar will receive his newest award during the PRC Awards Night on June 22, 2006 at the Manila Hotel in Roxas Boulevard.
