Mama Bae Marzoc
BIR Western Visayas' new captain
A new Regional Director has taken the helm of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Western Visayas in the person of Mama Bae Marzoc. Marzoc is a Maranao coming from Bagua, Cotabato City. He is the first muslim Regional Director ever appointed here in BIR Revenue Region No. 11.
Marzoc carries with him a remarkable credential having worked with BIR for 39 years. His career with BIR started in 1967 as a Revenue Cash Clerk for two years and afterwards a Revenue Examiner Aide for another six years. He then became a Revenue Examiner for the next three years, a Senior Revenue Examiner for six years and then a Supervising Revenue Enforcement Officer for two years. He was then promoted as Assistant Regional Director and after a year became the Regional Director.
Marzoc finished his Bachelor in Business Administration major in Accounting at the University of the East in 1964 and after which also took up a degree on Business Administration -- Taxation & Tariff on the same university from 1964 to 1965. He then became a Certified Public Accountant in December of 1965. Furthermore, he took up his Bachelor of Laws from 1970 to 1974 and Master in Public Administration from 1977 to 1984 both at Notre Dame University.
Marzoc is a well-trained and very competent leader skilled in auditing, accounting, bookkeeping and tax case investigation, he has participated in various management and leadership training seminars and seminars on taxation and taxation updates.
A family man, Marzoc is married to Consuelo Tiangao Torilla, a native of Tigbauan, Iloilo, who is now working with the National Food Authority (NFA) in Cotabato City. They are blessed with four children, namely, Fatima, 33 years old, Faizal, 27 years old, Farisha, 23 years old, and Fazzakir 26 years old.
Ironically, though he has an Ilongga wife Marzoc has never been to Iloilo ever since. That is why he considers his assignment here in BIR Western Visayas as a blessing in disguise as he will be able to see the land where his wife hails.
Before his assignment here in Western Visayas Marzoc served as Regional Director of Revenue Region No. 16 Cagayan De Oro City. Besides Cagayan De Oro, Marzoc has also served Butuan, Zamboanga and Cotabato cities.
Aside from his regular tasks as Regional Director, a typical day for Marzoc consist of five times of prayer to Allah. Marzoc expressed that his firm belief in Allah gives him strength in whatever he does. He also doesn't smoke cigarettes, drink liquors and doesn't like to go to parties either.
Marzoc considers his assignment in Western Visayas as a challenge considering that the region was given a higher goal by the Central Office this year. However, he observes that Western Visayas is much peaceful compared to areas in Mindanao where he had been. With the cooperation of all the Revenue District Offices, the business sector and the local government units Marzoc is confident that he will be able to propel BIR Western Visayas into reaching its goal set by the government.
