Capiz earmarks P73.6 million for dev't projects
ROXAS CITY -- The provincial government of Capiz has earmarked P73.6 million for various development projects this year, according to OIC-Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Antonio V. Asis.
Asis said the amount represents the Twenty Percent (20%) Development Fund of the province from its present annual budget.
The Provincial Development Council (PDC) is convening today, July 27, at the Hall of Governors of the Provincial Capitol to approve the Annual Investment Program (AIP) for the development funds. Gov. Vicente Bermejo will preside over the meeting in his capacity as PDC chairperson.
The meeting will be attended by municipal mayors, representatives of the offices of the two Congressmen of the province, non-government organizations, and other mandated members of the council.
The development fund will be used by the provincial government for projects in economic development, social development, infrastructure development, development administration, and community-based direct action projects.
These projects were drawn up in line with the Ten-Point Agenda of Governor Bermejo. The governor?s development initiatives have given birth to pioneering projects in basic health service delivery, namely health passporting and parallel drug importation, and agricultural development (Binhian Sa Barangay).
In her State of the Nation Address (SONA) before the joint session of Congress last July 24, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo thanked and cited local government units and officials for their crucial role as frontliners in the change process that leads to greater accountability, better service and more responsiveness to the people.
For its part, the city government of Roxas has some P30 million in 20 percent development funds every year which it uses to implement various socio-economic projects that are beneficial to the people.
