Israel, God's chosen nation
In November 1947, the United Nations voted in favor of partitioning Palestine country into separate Arab and Jewish states. The partition plan allotted to the Jews those areas in which they were heavily settled. The UN recommended that Jerusalem be internationalized. Immediately after the UN decision, the Arabs began to attack Jewish settlements. The Jews were prepared to fight. The Haganah, the Jewish underground defense army took an Arab stronghold in Jerusalem -- Tel Aviv and the Jewish convoy reached Jerusalem.
A few days of April 2, a Jewish force defeated the Arab Army of Liberation. The news of these defeats spread to the Arab villagers, who panicked and began to flee to Arab strongholds in Samaria and Judea and into the surrounding Arab nations. From that time, no real resistance was made by the Palestinian Arabs. Arab armies began to invade Israel-held territory when the British withdrew. These armies were supported largely by Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Egypt. The invading Arab armies failed in an attempt to take northern Galilee. By the fall of 1948, the only Arab country actively interested in continuing the war was Egypt. Israel attacked the Egyptians south of Tel Aviv and drove them back to what is now the Gaza Strip. On October 21, Beersheba in the Negev was taken. Later the Israelis crossed into Egypt where they cut off the enemy supply line, and withdrew. The war ended on January 7, 1949.
When Egypt closed the Gulf of Aqaba to Israel, shipping stopped. War broke out in May 1967 between Israel and its Arab neighbors with heaviest fighting taking place along the borders with Egypt and Jordan. All Arab countries pledged their support in the effort against Israel. Within a week, Israel scored overwhelming victories and had occupied all of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, all of Jordan west of the Jordan River and hundreds of square miles of Syrian territory. UN proposed a ceasefire and was agreed upon.

Many Christians believe that God was behind Israel in their war against Arab countries. The Israelites are the descendants of the patriarch Jacob, son of Isaac who later was called Israel as written in Genesis 32:28. In the Holy Bible, Israelites or the children of Israel, means the same thing as Hebrews, and the term is sometimes applied to the Jews of today.
In the current conflict with Hezbollah guerrillas, Israel's armored weaponry seems superior to that of their adversary. Israel's fighter jets roam freely over the airspace of Lebanon and sometimes near Syria, but no Arab fighter planes would dare intercept Israel's air power. Israel forces had penetrated in Southern Lebanon border about four weeks ago and had inflicted infrastructure including civilian damage on Lebanon. More than a hundred Hezbollah guerrilla fighters were slaughtered while dozens of Hezbollah rockets killed over a hundred Israel civilians.
Will God help Israel in her present war with Hezbollah?
"For you are the holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth." Deuteronomy 14:2. 1 Samuel 12:22, "For the Lord will not forsake His people, for His great name's sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you His people."
In the US recently, the Protestants of all denominations all over the 50 states gathered in Washington D.C as the United Christians for Israel sought the help of Pres. George Bush and the members of the US Congress in their fight against the forces of evil in Israel. Christians believe that Israel will be His chosen people, Israel!
