Nursing Board passer Angela Jardeleza bares all
The night before her so-called judgment day Angela Dewi H. Jardeleza revealed that she has not slept at all. Probably due to nervous anticipation, she anxiously let the time pass hoping that she could at least rest her mind even for just a short period but it was futile. She has a good reason to feel that way, her Nursing Board Exam is up in a couple of hours but instead of getting a good night's rest, her thoughts is filled with a gamut of apprehensions.
After four days of intense pressure and nerve-wracking examination, her hard work inexorably paid off. She was one among the 177 examinees from St. Paul University who now are certified Nurses.
Her proud parents, businessman and engineer Steve and Maria Dulce Jardeleza and younger brother Adrian were the first to congratulate her the day the results came out. Knowing the ordeals that she went through for four years and how hard she worked before the examination, her family could not have been anymore grateful that she can at least rest now for a while before pursuing her long term goal as a Licensed Nurse.
It's not surprising why she made it. In high school, although she admitted to be shy and reserved, her excellence as a student was recognized with Special Academic Award and Diligence Award. She was also an active participant in theatrical activities and folk dances. In college, she was a member of a photography organization.
Her preparation for the Nursing Licensure Exam took two months. They were housed at St. Paul's dormitory, patiently doing the same routines everyday -- wake up early, attend mass and pray the rosary, review for 8 hours straight, sleep and repeat the same activity the next day. It was something she cannot complain about. "I believe that with fervent prayers, hard work, and sacrifice, you will really get something in return and that is exactly what you want because you made it happen," she says. Her parents who never failed to teach her to be responsible, stand on her own, and make right decisions even with minimal supervision are also important part of her success. Although her parents impose curfews, Angela reveals that they do not have much restrictions other than being home on time. "My parents don't say much, they let us be, especially my mom who's naturally quiet and my dad being cool and outgoing, but they are not the type who tolerate mistakes and let you pass on a punishment if you deserve it." It's even quite odd and amusing that her dad sent her an e-mail message once telling her to study hard, be the best that she can and let her know that they trust her a lot.
Just like any normal student, her travails towards success is not without apprehensions. She thought of shifting to a business degree when she was in her second year after she has foreseen more difficulty in pursuing her course in Nursing. She thought against it however, when she realized that it's easier for her parents to have a better retirement in the future and for herself as well to have a bigger chance of getting employed abroad, in countries such as Canada and the United States. "My aunt is a nurse in the US and so I thought it would be easier for me to migrate there if I am also a Nurse. The compensation is a far cry to what nurses here in our country earn, I want to be able to return, if not pay, my parents' sacrifices immediately and make them proud because they deserve it." She considers her parents key towards every attainment she achieves and since has learned from them to always reach her goals with persistence and dedication. "My mom taught me to regret the times that I have spoken but never when I was silent. She made me listen and her simplicity made us more. My dad, on the other hand, is not any typical dad. He is affectionate in his own ways."
Her time was well spent with school works, friends, family and being a doting sister to her teenage younger brother who is now a 4th year high school in West Bridge. "I love making other people happy," Angela says. It is easy to see why her friends describe her as a good listener, thoughtful, loving and giving.
Passing the Nursing Board Exam is her greatest achievement at the moment. Defying her fears of getting silently rejected and ridiculed if she failed, she has proven that faith leads you right in the path of prosperity and freedom.
Always full of life, she surrounds herself with good company and clean fun. As a devoted Christian she shied away from vices such as drinking and smoking knowing that she has to be a good example to others, particularly to her brother.
A student's life is fun. But it also entails a complete surrender to trials and persistent perseverance as part of moving on towards excellence. Angela has done her part and more than that she ascertained herself a brighter future and an unselfish tribute to the people who have made her who she is. Passing the Nursing Board Exam is now her ticket to success and her triumph is shared by the people she cares most. It is one proof that she is a step closer to more accomplishments in life.
