Training on webpage posting & updating, news writing held anew for IOs
To broaden their knowledge on webpage posting & updating and news writing, a two-day seminar-training, sponsored by the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), was held for information officers (IOs) of the Iloilo Provincial Government lately at the Capitol's conference hall.
This activity served as follow-up of last year's training on the same areas but this time, a basic knowledge on writing press release and uploading were given emphasis to hone IOs skills as preparation to the re-launching of the province's website sometimes in September. It was learned Iloilo's webpage together with other 800 LGU websites in the country was hacked early this year.
Mr. Felipe Vista, IT Coordinator in Region VI, introduced Joomla!, a Content Management System (CMS) which is used in hosting the province's homepage: www.iloilo.gov.ph.
Through this simple, browser-based inference, uploading of press releases or news items, managing staff pages, job listing and creation of unlimited amount of sections or content pages become easy while editing of content and updating of images become simple even for non-technical users.
Mr. Ian C. Espada, web page Editor, handled the hands-on press release/news release writing to give IOs better understanding of basic news elements and proper format to follow when submitting their reports.
He also underscored IOs' functions and responsibilities as stipulated in the Executive Order No. 205 of Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr. from preparing weekly press releases highlighting offices' accomplishments to coordinating with municipal information officers in gathering news and information.
Mr. Mario Nillos, PPDO head, said his office will conduct an Internet Appreciation activity for capitol offices' chiefs to present the importance of Information Technology (IT) nowadays and to gain their support in the present initiative in bringing Iloilo to the rest of world through the cyberspace.
Meanwhile, Provincial Administrator Manuel P. Mejorada advised the IOs during the culmination program to do their share to sustain website's operation by diligently observing their duties and functions and at the same time sharpening their writing skills to come up with good article for uploading.
