P2.4M awaits environment-friendly barangays, schools in Negros
Bacolod City -- The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental thru the Provincial Environment Management Office is pleased to announce the 4th Search for Environment-Friendly Barangays and Schools. Now on its fourth year.
The Environment-Friendly Search will start its activities this August and the winners will be awarded on June 2007 during the Culmination of the Provincial Environment Week. To encourage more participation and to develop a more sustainable strategy, the numbers of categories were increased from two (2) to six (6) this year.
The categories are: (1) City Upland/Urban Barangay (2) City Coastal Barangay (3) City Elementary School (4) Municipal Upland/Urban Barangay (5) Municipal Coastal Barangay and (6) Municipal Elementary School.
Each Local Government Unit is allowed to have a maximum of three official entries for each category. The Six Environment Friendly awardees will receive One Hundred Thousand Pesos (P100,000) each and a plaque of recognition, and the Twelve Finalists (2 for each category) will receive Fifty Thousand Pesos (P50,000) each and a plaque of recognition. There will be sixty semi-finalists (10 for each category - final rating will not be lower than 80%) to receive Twenty Thousand pesos (P20,000) each.
This year's Search gives more emphasis on the environment management system implemented in schools and barangays. Official School entries will be assessed according to their Documentation submitted (15%), Environmental Education and Advocacy (15%), Greening (10%), Solid Waste Management (15%) and other Special Environmental Programs (10%), Physical Environment (5%) and Sustainability of the program (30%), while the barangay entries will be assessed according to their Documentation submitted (15%), Environmental Education and Advocacy (20%), Greening (15%), Solid Waste Management (15%) and other Special Environment Programs (10%) and Sustainability of the program (25%).
