Capiz sustains livelihood program
Roxas City -- The provincial government here is pushing for the institutionalization of providing livelihood opportunities for Capiceños.
This is in consonance with the national government's goal on economic growth and job creation.
While the national government is working on a concrete blueprint to consolidate the economy, draw investments, create jobs and channel revenues into building more infrastructure and human capital to sustain growth, the provincial government is providing livelihood opportunities for Capiceños.
In the annual investment program of the province for the current year, the provincial government has P515,000.00 approved budget for the provincial livelihood program, which is a component of the social development agenda of the administration of Governor Vicente Bermejo.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Violeta Silva disclosed that the livelihood program of the province started in January this year with an initial budget of P500,000.00.
She said that four organized groups in the three municipalities of the province have already availed of the livelihood fund. These include the organized groups in Calapawan and Tanza Sur in Panay, Agcabugao in Cuartero, and the Persons with Disabilities in Dao.
Silva explained that each organized group was given a seed capital of P125,000.00 to allow each member to a loan up to P5,000.00, and is required to make a repayment of said loan within one year.
According to Silva, as of this month, the said organized groups were able to pay about 70 percent of the loaned amount.
She stressed that at present, they are in the process of identifying the recipient municipalities for the recently approved budget for the livelihood program of the province.
