Heavy siltation affects water supply
Consumers of Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) in the different parts of Iloilo City and the municipalities covered by its service at present will experience low water pressure in the meantime that cleaning of the intake structure of the MIWD dam is going on due to heavy siltation caused by flood.
Engr. Edgar Calasara, MIWD Division Manager for Construction and Maintenance and the office in-charge of the Operations Department, said that the ongoing activity will affect MIWD consumers in Iloilo City downtown area, the districts of Jaro, La Paz, Mandurriao, Molo and Arevalo and the towns of Maasin, Cabatuan, Sta. Barbara and Pavia within the next few days once heavy rain persists.
Relative to this incident, water consumers are advised that during rainy season or in cases of typhoon or flood, MIWD will automatically regulate its supply at the sedimentation basin in Barangay Buntalan, Maasin, Iloilo and at the reservoir in Barangay Talanghauan, Santa Barbara.
According to Calasara this move will eventually cause intermittent low water supply in the next few days or weeks, depending on the stormy weather, hence, consumers are advised to take note of the reminder so that they can store enough water in order to spare them from further inconvenience during calamities.
MIWD likewise urged its public to make use of rainwater for washing especially during this season.
