WV Historical and Cultural Council launching set Friday
Commissioner Cecile Guidote Alvarez, director of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and Executive Director Ludovico D.Badoy of the National Historical Institute are the keynote speakers of the launching of the Western Visayas Historical and Cultural Council on August 18, 2006 at the Educational Media Center of the Central Philippine University.
Information gathered from the National Economic and Development Authority, Region VI said that there is a great need to form the Historical and Cultural Council for Region VI because the region is blessed with a proud historical legacy.
Many of the region's rich oral literature, like epics, myths, legends and other historical artifacts has not been documented.
The NEDA information further said that the Regional Development Council for Western Visayas deemed it necessary to form a Regional Historical Council which will act as the arm in preserving, promoting and advancing Region 6 cultural and historical heritage.
This council will be in the forefront in undertaking program designed to educate promote historical and cultural awareness to the people. It will also explore new ways of disseminating historical knowledge, and annually the council shall submit report to the RDC of its activities and achievement.
The program on Friday's launching of the Regional Historical and Cultural Council will include the following:Welcome greetings by Dr. Juanito M. Acanto, CPU President; Rationale of the WV Historical and Cultural Council- Mr. Demy P. Sonza, co-chair of WV Historical and Cultural Council;Native Dance number from Consolacion "Miningkol" Diaz Guban sang Tapaz Bukidnon; Choral Presentation- Paranublio-on of Antique;and Kick-off for the 150th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Graciano Lopez-Jaena and Fund Campaign for Lopez-Jaena Shrine - Gov. Salvacion Zaldivar Perez, chair of the Regional Development Council, Region VI.
