Serendipity
snip / cut
Finally, I'm sitting here in front of my laptop and typing the first few words that would soon become my article for this issue's Serendipity. It feels strange to be doing this after a long hiatus, writing words and sentences that will once again occupy space in the pages of TNT. Hate mail will once again pile up and nasty text messages will be sent by my adoring fans, you know, those people who have no sense of humor and fashion sense. It actually feels good to disappear once in a while, how else will you be missed if you're always around?
Well, life got in the way -- that was the reason behind my absence. After my recent trip, I went home with a bad case of the flu, changed my address twice (all in the span of two weeks), went on a tutorial rampage to salvage my son Zach's Sibika and CAF grades (he might as well be from Mars judging from his non-comprehension of the Filipino language), organized a joint birthday party for my two kids where I almost went cuckoo from figuring out how in the world I would fill up the humongous kiddie lootbag I bought online, and basically had daily nervous breakdowns from the stress of my everyday life. My advice to moms, never leave your family for more than a week. Look at what happened to me.
After more than a month of running around and acting like a rabid dog, I just want to take it easy and prioritize. I have resolved to prune all unnecessary stressors in my life (bad projects, bad people and bad people behind bad projects), trim the superfluous and let go of everything that will not positively benefit me and my family. So if any of you are thinking of giving me work, just back off, I'll get back to you in two years. But for those I've already said "yes" to, I think I'll double my price -- I'm kidding, of course.
And so, I'm welcoming myself back. It feels good, to be able to write again. Writing makes me happy and happiness is one of the things that make life worth living, right? Which reminds me, from now on, I'll take it easy on the public lynching (yes, promise -- as long as you also go easy on the hair-do or grow a brain). I'll also try to inject some Oprahish wisdom along the way so that I'll be more appreciated and not resented by readers who expect to get something substantial from my writings (like words of wisdom and not an aneurism).
Until next week then. In the meantime, I'll do some "gardening". A little snip here, a little cut there -- it's pruning time!
