Calendar of activities for 2007 elections out
The calendar of activities for the 2007 national and local elections was recently released by the Commission on Elections, even before the battle for Charter change has yet to begin in the Supreme Court.
The Comelec headed by Chairman Benjamin S. Abalos approved Resolution No. 7707 prescribing a calendar of activities and prohibited acts.
The Comelec slates September 30, 2006 as the deadline for the filing of applications for registration or certification of overseas absentee voters while the deadline for the filing of applications for registration, transfer and reactivation in the local registry is on December 31, 2006.
Comelec also said that it has set September 16, 2006 as the deadline for the filing of petitions for registration in the party-list system of representation.
The election period is from January 14 to June 13, 2007. during this period, the Comelec said electoral prohibitions shall be implemented like the carrying of firearms and other deadly weapons, organizations or maintenance of reactions or strike force and transfer of officers and employees in the civil services.
The Comelec said that the filing of certificates of candidacy and manifestation of intent to participate in the party-list elections starts on January 15, 2007 and ends on February 12, 2007.
The filing of certificates of candidacy for senatorial positions and for those who intend to participate in the party-list polls will end on February 12, 2007, while for local elective positions, the filing of certificate of candidacy ends on March 29, 2007.
