This year, one of the College of Management's own is among the winners in the country's premier literary competition.
Christian Ubaña Tordecillas, a recent BSBA Marketing graduate won 3rd prize in the Dulang Isang Yugto Category of the 56th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature. During the Awards Night held at the Dusit Hotel Nikko last September 1, 2006, he received P7,000 and a certificate for his masterpiece "Dyip".
"Dyip" is a comedy about a would-be upper-class matron versus two high school sweethearts refusing to pass each other's fare to the jeepney driver on a hot and noisy morning in Manila. This was adapted from his script that won top prizes in the first CM sa Pinilakang Tabing interbatch play competition last December 2004.
Tordecillas' first entry to the annual contest puts him in the circle of UPV's Palanca awardees which include Genevieve Asenjo, Dr. Leoncio Deriada, Prof. Alice Gonzales, Prof . Jonathan Jurilla and Peter Solis Nery, who are either graduates or faculty members of the College of Arts and Sciences.
A former literary editor of The Accounts, CM's official student paper, Christian traces his roots to Kalibo, Aklan and Pasig, Manila. He was also a member of the theater group Tagupci. He currently works in a business process outsourcing company in Makati City.
