Roxas City Alay Lakad on September 27
Roxas City -- The city government of Roxas will once again conduct the actual walk of the yearly Alay Lakad celebration on September 27 to generate funds that will be channeled to the various activities of the out-of-school youth (OSY) here.
The walk-for-a-cause activity is in line with Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's commitment to strengthen job generation by creating six million jobs, triple loans to micro, small and medium-scale enterprises and developing one to two million hectares of agribusiness lands in the next six years.
The solicited funds during the walk will be engaged into pro-poor programs like livelihood projects, scholarship grants, skills trainings and seminars for out-of-school youth.
This year's walk-for-a-cause with the theme "Bawat Hakbang Kabuhayan Para sa Kabataan" is spearheaded by the Kabalikat Civicom 371 and Capiz Volunteers Assistance Team (CVAT) as over-all chairman and vice-chairman, respectively.
Alay Lakad Foundation, Inc. (ALFI) - Roxas City Chapter President and City Veterinarian Roberto Dante Corros said that the project aims to help OSYs become responsible and productive individuals in the community.
Corros is the first Capiceño to be elected as member of the Board of Trustees of the ALFI-national this year.
The participants composed of students, government officials and employees, barangay leaders, socio-civic and non-government organizations, media practitioners, among others, will pass by the major thoroughfares and converge at the city plaza here for a simple program.
Different committees were also organized for the Alay Lakad 2006 to firm up preparations and ensure the success of the activity.
William Basas, Jr., Alay Lakad Coordinator and Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Youth Development Assistant, said that project beneficiaries had improved their standard of living and become productive citizens of the community.
"The project has nine existing scholars for the first semester of school year 2006 - 2007," Basas noted.
Hundreds of OSYs have benefited from the project through scholarship grants, livelihood trainings and projects since early 1991.
Last summer, at least 30 beneficiaries attended the 120-hour training on practical electricity aimed to help the participants become productive and responsible individuals in the community.
