Bigger Nat'l PRISAA up as Iloilo gears for '07 hosting
Over 5,000 student athletes and the country's renowned coaches will see action in Iloilo with the city playing host in next year's National Private Schools Athletics Association (PRISAA) sports meet.
Delegates will compete in a total of fourteen sports event, the participating athletes coming from the 500 member schools in 17 regions. Slated on April 15 to 21, 2007, next year's National PRISAA will see the first year of Football and Karatedo competitions.
Cecilia Ortiz, Vice President for Administration of the University of Iloilo (UI) is the Western Visayas PRISAA president. The region is expected to draw better results in the sports meet after garnering the most number of medals in two successive years now.
In a press conference, Dr. Emmanuel Angeles, National PRISAA chairman of the board said efforts are underway to ensure the successful and safe holding of the weeklong sports event. As such, regular meetings are to be held in a bid to resolve remaining and continuing concerns of member schools.
Foremost of the board's priority is the athletes' safety in the conduct of the competition even as he stressed that it is all about camaraderie and the best in Filipino values that the National PRISAA aim for.
Angeles was joined in by Dr. Gonzalo Duque as co-chair. Duque for his part said regional sports meet are a go come December to February in time for the championship rounds in April.
