DOST announces 2007 S&T Scholarship Program
The Department of Science and Technology -- Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) announced lately the implementation of the 2007 Science & Technology Scholarship Program.
In a communication sent to Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr., DOST Regional Director Zinnia Parcon-Teruel said the DOST-SEI shall award scholarships in baccalaureate degree to students who wish to pursue priority fields of study in Basic Sciences, Engineering and other Applied Sciences and Science teaching courses.
Teruel said there are two scholarship programs being offered this year such as the RA 7687 Science & Technology Scholarship for an applicant whose family gross income does not exceed P156,600.00 annually and requires a photocopy of the 2005 Income Tax Return of the parents or BIR Certificate of Tax Exemption; and DOST-SEI Scholarship, for an applicant whose family gross income is more than P156,600.00 annually and requires payment of non-refundable testing fee of P200.00.
She said further the applicant must belong to the top five percent (5%) of the regular high school graduating class or to the graduating class of a DOST-SEI identified or DepEd-recognized science high school, be a resident of the municipality for the last four (4) years, be a natural-born Filipino citizen, be in good health and be of good moral character.
The scholarship privileges are: a) Tuition and other school fees not exceed P4,500/semester/term; b) Allowance for prescribed textbooks and essential school supplies at P3,000.00/academic year; c) Outright grant for prescribed Military Science/Physical Education uniform of P500.00 for first semester for first year only; d) Free transportation for one economy-class round trip ticket fare between permanent residence and place of study on reimbursement basis (for those studying outside of their home province); e) Monthly living allowance for 10-11 month duration, wherein, for RA 7687 S&T Scholarship, those who will pursue Physics, Physics Teaching Course will receive a monthly living allowance of P4,000.00 and for those who will pursue other DOST-SEI priority course, will receive a monthly living allowance of P3,000.00 while for DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship, those who will pursue BS Physics, BS Applied Physics, BS Physics for Teachers and BSE Physics and Technology will received a monthly living allowance of P4,000.00/P2,150.00/P1,825.00 for full/partial/ special scholarship, respectively and for those who will pursue S&T Priority courses, will receive a living allowance of P3,000.00, P1,400.00, and P1,200.00 for full, partial and special scholarship, respectively.
Scholars will also avail group health accident insurance and additional privileges during summer if required in the curriculum.
Application forms are available at the DOST Regional Office at Magsaysay Village, La Paz, Iloilo City. Accomplished application forms should be submitted to the said office on of before November 10, 2006. Examination will be on December 3, 2006 at Western Visayas College of Science & Technology, La Paz, Iloilo City.
