MariCom-6 to help secure Cebu Asean Summit delegates
The 6th Regional Maritime Office (6th RMO) based in Camp Martin Delgado, Iloilo City will send its best floating asset to Cebu to augment the security preparation that is being done for the upcoming Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in December.
RMO Regional Officer Supt. Cornelio Salinas said among the Maritime Regional Offices nationwide, it is only this region's that has the capability to deploy a patrol boat to the venue of the 2006 summit.
Next week, the Maritime Repair Team from Manila will arrive here to check on the mechanical and electrical parts of Patrol Boat Costosa to ensure that it is in good running condition when sent to Cebu in November.
Salinas said the Maritime Office has allotted P400,000 for the repair and transport of the patrol boat.
"This is the contribution of the 6th RMO in the provision of security during the summit," he said.
The boat will be manned by seven personnel coming from this region. It will be complemented by personnel from other regional offices of the RMC.
The concentration of their operation will be the busy sea lane between the two major bridges in Metro Cebu.
