Res Gestae
Overloaded
Never did I realize how hectic my schedule was until I found myself last week rushing from one meeting to another with barely an hour interval each. I used to have a minimum of three meetings a week, excluding the regular office weekly reports and "extra-curricula" that oftentimes come at the last minute. Not also counting my obligations as a family man.
Last week, my ability of meeting my schedule had been put to test. It was a week packed with deadlines. Overloaded it was!
I was set to attend the 1st Association of Law Students of the Philippines (ALSP) Joint Visayas – Mindanao Conference at Club Ultima, Osmeña Street, Cebu City from October 19 to 21. Being the Vice Chairperson of the ALSP - Visayas Regional Board, I couldn't just take for granted the said event. However, aside from the compulsion of my being an officer, I had been looking forward the said event because Atty Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III (No. 1 in 1990 Bar Exam) was one of the speakers; and, ultimately because Koko was assigned with a topic on how to ace the bar exams. As a student of law, I couldn't really help of getting excited knowing the "magic formula" for hurdling the little inconvenience (as Koko described it) of bar exams. (I will share about the conference next issue).
Having that conference on the top of my priorities that week, the rest of my commitments must be accomplished with greater urgency before I left for Cebu. Thus, four hours before my scheduled departure, I indulged at the meeting with the Federation of Iloilo Development Cooperatives (FIDECO) as we finalized the program for the culminating activity relative to Cooperative Month Celebration this October 27, Friday. My schedule with FIDECO is something I can't make an excuse. Being the youngest of FIDECO Directors, I am always overwhelmed with the "learning moment" I have with the veterans, the experienced in cooperative business. Surely enough, as the youngest, I am usually hesitant to refuse the work assigned to me on the basis on my being "youth". Thus, for the culmination of Cooperative Month, I am given a lead role on the Invitation and Program Committee. LET ME THEN INVITE EVERYONE FOR A HOLY MASS AT SAN JOSE PARISH CHURCH, A CARAVAN AND A SHORT PROGRAM AT JARO PLAZA COVERED GYM AS PART OF THE CULMINATING ACTIVITY OF COOPERATIVE MONTH CELEBRATION ON OCTOBER 27, FRIDAY. THE ACTIVITY STARTS AT 7:00 A.M.! Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is the keynote speaker during the program and hopefully will now hand over the P1 Million grant he promised to the FIDECO.
After the meeting and as I boarded Trans-Asia Indonesia bound to Cebu City, my overloaded week was seemingly over. But, the truth of the matter was I carried with me a brown envelop filled with, among others, references for drafting the resolutions, school assignments, project proposals and other "special projects" at the office. Determined to accomplish everything before I landed the next island, I retired to my bed before the dawn broke the next day. And, with less than three-hour sleep, I disembarked Trans-Asia Indonesia full of enthusiasm of meeting new friends at the 1st ALSP Joint Visayas – Mindanao Conference and of listening to Koko Pimentel's "magic" formula for passing the bar exam!
