Agrarian reform issues up at policy consultation
The Philippine Legislators Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD) in partnership with the House Committee on Agrarian Reform will sponsor a policy consultation and public hearing on agrarian reform and rural development on November 8, 2006 at the Four-Season Hotel, Iloilo City.
According to Romeo Dongeto, acting executive of PLCPD the affair will be attended by Rep. Mario Joyo Aguya (AKBAYAN Party List, PLCPD Member and HB 5743 Co-Author); Rep. Gregorio Ipong (2nd District-North Cotabato, PLCPD Member and House Committee on Agrarian Reform Chairperson); Rep. Danilo Lagbas (1st District-Misamis Oriental and Co-Author of House Bill 5698; Dir. Alexis Arsenal of DAR Region VI and representatives from various stakeholder groups like Iloilo Caucus of Development (ICODE; Participatory Research Organization of Communities and Education towards Struggle for Self-reliance (PROCESS); Panay Rural Development Center, Inc. Panay Rural Organizing for Empowerment and Social Order; PAMANGAS; PASAMAKA and PATANOM.
Dongeto further said that the activity aims to discuss local agrarian reform issues and concerns and identify and present policy alternatives as well as common policy agenda items on agrarian reform and rural development.
The activity will likewise gather the responses and harmonize possible actions on agreed upon policy agenda items; and study and consolidate a local to natiponal policy agenda on agrarian reform and rural development.
