NPAs slam region's top cop over mall bomb charge
Chief Supt. Geary Barias
The 'hierarchy' of the communist-terrorist New People's Army (NPA) is angered by the charge that the recent explosives found in a mall was the handiwork of the group. With no less than Chief Supt. Geary Barias, Police Regional Director (PRO 6) director pointing to the NPA rebels as the culprits, the NPA in a statement emailed to The News Today (TNT) denied the accusation and went on to denounce Barias as an "incompetent general."
And harsher words too for the Barias-run police offices in Western Visayas while calling the region's top cop names saying like a broken record, the police are out to blame the NPAs for cases and crimes left unresolved.
In denying ownership to the bomb left in the mall parking lot, the statement went further to justify previous NPA attacks saying the usual targets are military and police personnel and those civilians deemed "enemies". It was also dead wrong for Chief Supt. Barias, the NPAs continued, to tag them in the discovered and recovered bomb with the NPA boasting that theirs is actually "command-detonated" on "definite targets."
"Sin-o karon ang kriminal? Sin-o ang terorista? Ang pagbansag sang mga lideres sang PNP kag militar nga terorista ang NPA alingawngaw lang sang matingil nga taghol sang ila madaya nga kumander-in-tsip -- Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo-- agod mapalig-on ang iya rason nga mapasar ang anti-terorismo nga hagna sa kongreso (So who is the criminal now? Who is the terrorist? The PNP and military's statement calling NPA leaders terrorists is an echo of the statement of their Commander-in-Chief Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in order to strengthen their resolve to pass the anti-terror bill pending in Congress)," excerpts of the NPA statement went.
The statement was sent by the Coronacion Chiva "Waling-Waling" Command New People's Army -- Panay Region through their spokesperson Julian Paisano.
Last week's "bomb" discovery strengthened anew security measures in public places with Mayor Jerry Treñas activating barangay-based intelligence network.
The mayor called on village chiefs to report to authorities and his office any sightings of suspicious locals and new faces in the community. Mall security alerted the police of the mid-morning discovery following regular rounds made by the K9 units here.
