12 aircon shops get free CFC recovery equipment

Twelve aircon service center owners in the region recently received machines for the recovery of ozone depleting refrigerants for free.
The distribution was conducted Wednesday, November 8, at the state-run Western Visayas College of Science and Technology in La Paz, Iloilo City.
The beneficiaries first underwent a one-week training from the said school with regard to the operation of the recovery machine and other codes of practice.

The twelve beneficiary aircon service centers are: Antique Refrigeration (San Jose, Antique); Amandel Service Center (Mandurriao, Iloilo City); Ambong Refrigeration & Aircon Repair Shop (San Jose, Antique); Deka Sales Ref & Contracting Services (Iloilo City); G.D. Car Aircon Services (Jaro, Iloilo City); JP Ref. Airconditioning Repair & Services (Bacolod City); JSP Air Conditioning Sales & Services (Kalibo, Aklan); JSP Air Conditioning Sales & Services (Roxas City); Remard Refrigeration Specialist (Jaro, Iloilo City); Sarmiento Car Aircon (Jaro, Iloilo City) SD Aircon (Jaro, Iloilo City); and SNJ Elect. Ref. & Aircon Service Center (San Jose, Antique).
The acquisition of the recovery machine which consist of a tank and a regulator was funded by the Swedish International Development Assistance through the World Bank.
This is in line with the Philippine National CFC Phase-Out Plan (NCPP) as mandated by the Montreal Protocol of which the Philippines is a signatory. The Montreal Protocol aims to totally phase-out ozone depleting substances like Freon (R-12 and R-22).
The distribution of the recovery equipment was made possible through the NCPP Voucher scheme being implemented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources -- Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) through its accredited supplier SJ Gas and Appliance Center Inc.
The Voucher scheme is open to registered Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning (RAC) and Mobile Air-Conditioning (MAC) shops with service technicians certified by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) on a first-come, first-served basis.
DENR-EMB Regional Director Bienvenido Lipayon said his office will conduct regular monitoring to ensure that the recovery equipment are properly used.
