Antique resort owners support medical tourism program
San Jose, Antique -- Antique's resort and tourist destinations are capable of catering to the needs of tourists who are seeking venue to recuperate or find time to relax after a stressful medical examination/treatment said Dr. Norman Tanchuan, Provincial Health Officer.
"Antique is endowed with long stretch of beaches, the Siraan hot spring in Aniniy, Malumpati Natural Spring in Pandan, which are just a few of ideal places for relaxation not only for foreigners but for local tourist as well especially those seeking medical treatment," added Tanchuan.
Antique being part of Central Philippines tourist hub can be part of the country's Medical Tourism Program said Dr. Tanchuan who reported that health spa clinics are starting to thrive in the province with increasing number of license masseurs and therapist fit for those who are undergoing recovery/rehabilitation.
The Philippine Medical Tourism Program (PMTP) is on a roll raking an estimated $200 million this year from foreign patients seeking quality and affordable medical services. The PMTP seeks to offer the Philippines as a destination for health care and tourism where patients can go for rest and recreation while recuperating.
According to Health Undersecretary Jade del Mundo, who is in charge of the PMTP, a quarter million people flew into the country this year for cosmetic surgery, eye treatment or get their dentures fixed. With the PMTP, Filipino professionals can now serve the world right here at home as the government provides more jobs downstream and cut down poverty.
Medical tourism is one of the solid niches for the Philippines because we not only have the best doctors, nurses and caregivers in the world but we also have the best medical facilities in the region.
"Our province contribution to PMTP despite the fact that world class hospital facilities can only be found in Manila and our local hospital needs more interventions in terms of facilities, we have qualified doctors and world class tourist destinations", said Tanchuan.
