Treñas off to Thailand for environmental management confab
City Mayor Jerry Treñas is off for a one-day conference on Urban Environmental Management in Southeast Asia in Bangkok, Thailand on December 1, 2006. He will represent the city in the conference being the president of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP).
Treñas said the conference will deal on the urban environmental concerns on solid waste, water and clean air. The forum is timely as the city wants to construct its own sanitary landfill. The sanitary landfill will replace the open dumpsite currently being practiced at the Calajunan dumpsite.
The conference is in coordination with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), through the Southeast Asia Urban Enviromental Management Applications (SEA-UEMA). The conference is dubbed as Second Policy Forum on Urban Environmental Management in Southeast Asia.
The conference will be held on December 1, 2006 at the Twin Towers Hotel in Bangkok. The forum is part of the dissemination activities under SEA-UEMA, a five-year partnership program between the AIT and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The program aims to improve the urban environmental management policies and good practices in the region.
