Vendors to flood city's streets once again
The sidewalks on the city's main streets will again be full of vendors starting December 11.
Mayor Jerry Treñas has given the go signal for the vendors to place their wares in the sidewalks to give them additional income this holiday season.
Treñas said the vendors can sell all their merchandise without having to pay any amount to the city in form of taxes or fees. The vendors will be regulated by the Task Force on Sidewalk and Special Services Unit of the Iloilo City Hall.
The mayor said giving vendors the clearance to sell in the sidewalks even just for this season is his gift to them. He even appealed on the public to understand the situation as it is only for a short period of time.
Vendors are expected to mushroom along Iznart, JM Basa and Aldeguer streets.
Treñas said roving cops will be deployed in the area to protect holiday shoppers.
As in previous years the proliferation of sidewalk vendors would affect traffic flow in the area as pedestrians already use part of the road due to crowding.
The presence of sellers and buyers in the crowded streets will also be a perfect target for pickpockets and thieves.
