Legal basis needed to terminate traffic aides--Parcon
Councilor Armand Parcon said traffic aides could not just be terminated easily, there is a need for legal basis before they could be terminated.
Parcon's reaction was in view of reports that four traffic aides were recently dismissed and 20 others are recommended for dismissal because of their alleged involvement in illegal collection of parking fees in terminals not recognized by the city government though its Perimeter Boundary Ordinance (PBO).
Parcon, who is a member of the committee on transportation of the Sangguniang Panlungsod said there are two grounds that will call for the termination of a traffic aide. One is his absentism and the traffic aide has committed violations detrimental to his work.
Parcon said traffic aides who are reportedly recommended for dismissal should also be given the opportunity for a due process. There should be basis and claims for irregularities and protection racket should be substantiated.
Even if the traffic aides are casual employees of the city government but they should be given time to explain their side over whatever accusations hurled against them. Nevertheless, he said traffic aides who are considered as scalawags should be weed out from the city government's list of employees, said Parcon.
