RDC6 bats for removal of ATM charges for GSIS members
The Regional Development Council (RDC) 6 has strongly endorsed the removal of service charges on withdrawals, deposits and other transactions of GSIS members in using the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) other than that of Union Bank.
The resolution, passed by the Development Administration Committee is in support of the RDC Carraga XIII resolution on the same matter.
According to the resolution, the GSIS has implemented the E-card, which its members may use in accessing loans, claims and other proceeds from GSIS. However, the sad thing about it as pointed out in the resolution is that every time a GSIS member makes transactions through ATMs of other banks affiliated with the same networks as the Union Bank, a corresponding service charge is levied and directly deducted from the account of the member. This, they said in effect penalized the members for accessing their own accounts as they are forced into using the ATMs of other banks since there are no Union Bank ATM or branch in the area. In region 6, Union Bank ATMs and branches are limited.
The resolution said the charges are unwarranted since the services are available for free in areas covered by Union Bank. In cases of transactions made by non-Union Bank ATMs, charges should be borne by Union Bank or its host bank.
The resolution proposed by the Development Administration Committee said the GSIS policy board should study and reconsider policies on ATMs so that withdrawals, deposits and transactions using ATMs other than that of Union Bank should be without charges.
