CHEd, TESDA back ladderized system
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) are implementing a system that allows for easier transition and progression between Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education (HE) programs.
By virtue of Executive Order No. 358, TESDA and CHEd developed and implemented this unified national qualification framework that established equivalency pathways and access ramps for ladderized system.
This system allows the graduate of a registered TVET program to continue his studies towards a bachelor's degree program without enrolling back to first year or second year level.
Rex Casiple of the CHEd Regional Office 6 said that a non-degree course earned by a TVET graduate may be credited to or equivalent to the first two years of a related bachelor's degree program offered by a higher education institution.
Casiple said that the courses covered by this ladderized program are Agriculture, Maritime, Business, Information Technology, Teacher Education, Criminology, Engineering and Health-related courses.
The CHEd and the TESDA have already jointly implemented pilot programs for this ladderized system this School Year 2006-2007.
Casiple also said in operationalizing this system, CHEd and TESDA sought the assistance and support of the Professional Regulation Commission, Department of Labor and employment, Department of Education, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Budget and Management.
