Blessings Tupas can count
Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr., has more blessings to count as he is about to continue his third and last term serving the people in the province of Iloilo .
His political enemies strangely become so quiet, especially the bunch of congressional matadors whose only aim is to kill the bull out of Tupas.
A former radio announcer who successfully landed as the number one provincial board member in his first political attempt could have enjoyed the good patronage of his mentor had he played well with his cards.
He thought he was already big, only to realize he is nothing but just a peck in the eye, other than a pain in the ass.
He was so ambitious he wanted to reach instantly the peak of Mt. Everest, when he can hardly hurdle the base of Pan de Azucar in Concepcion, Iloilo .
Another ambitious female politician once whispered sweet nothings to Marilou Arroyo, a new political aspirant in the 4th district and sister of FG Mike Arroyo, convincing the latter to run against Gov. Niel D. Tupas. Marilou with sarcasm replied, "Sorry, I don't have that much money, unlike your father-in-law (or something to that effect). And besides I already committed myself to support Gov. Tupas whom I find credible and sincere. On second thought why don't you run yourself?"
Not to lose her poise in the presence of her colleagues, the female politician adamantly replied, "Ano ako ma-suicide?" End of conversation.
What about the nephew who started barking a lot of innuendos against his uncle early in the second term of Niel?
Niel has molded his most favorite nephew into what he is today. Unknowingly he also created a monster ultimately craving beyond reason for his own political destruction. Oh my, what a way to greet the Year of the Pig.
Other political opponents of Niel are doing their best to look for bets to challenge his incumbency.
Lately, they convinces a has-been actor to pit with the old man from the capitol. All right, hence the hasty transfer of residency after promising him the province could be a good source of mines.
Realizing he was taking in for a ride, the actor momentarily kept his options open instead of resorting to denial or confirmation.
Meanwhile, one mayor from uptown North had given him unsolicited advice: "You need at least P200M to run against Governor Tupas, but it is no guarantee for your victory. If I were you, you may ask former Cong. Oscar "Oca" Garin and seek for his enlightenment."
It was enough for Edu to get the message loud and clear. No wonder his image has never been visible around for quite sometime. His frenzied appearance accompanied allegedly by Dr. Fake to register his transfer of residency was nothing but a cheap political gimmick concocted by the political opponents of Niel. Now you see him, now you don't.
Their only option left is to let an oversized wannabe to take the battle for their lost cause.
Luckily, Niel has a lot of accomplishments beneficial to the provincial employees and to his constituents never achieved by his predecessors since the start of his administration.
It was in his time the new Iloilo Provincial Capitol was constructed, followed by the new Iloilo Rehabilitation Center in Pototan. Soon the Iloilo Airport of international standard in Cabatuan-Sta. Barbara will officially open its commercial flights in the middle of March this year.
As if this is not enough, soon a 6-story Call Center and a commercial Convention-Business Center will simultaneously begin its construction early this year.
More blessings hardly the governor can count them in his fingers are coming in his way.
With these achievements, give me a man that would resist his style of governance?
