Vendetta eyed in tanod outpost 'grenade' blast
City cops are now on the look-out for two male suspects believed to have perpetrated the early morning 'grenade' blast in a barangay tanod outpost yesterday (Tuesday).
One civilian volunteer 'police', Barangay Tanod Rolando Calahatan was injured and remains in guarded condition at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Iloilo Doctors' Hospital.
In a report, The News Today (TNT) gathered that vendetta is being eyed as the motive of the incident however Calahatan who was then on duty, appeared to be the wrong target and just happened to be at the 'right place at the wrong time.
Albeit still being verified if the blast was caused by a grenade or a homemade explosive, police investigators linked the 3 a.m. explosion to the 1 a.m. stabbing incident that involved yet another tanod member.
Radio accounts disclosed of the 1 a.m. altercation just outside the police outpost that had one Arnel Lacaña stabbed by Tanod Member Roselo Dela Cruz. The 33 year-old Lacaña is a native of Janiuay, Iloilo and a temporary resident of the barangay.
He was apparently accosted by Dela Cruz for urinating by the outpost that triggered a physical confrontation. Reports said Dela Cruz got hold of an iron bar and used it to stab Lacaña twice on the stomach.
Police responded to the stabbing incident and some two hours came yet another call for more help as residents awoke to a loud explosion.
A passing motorist told police that two male suspects were in the area with one serving as the look-out and driver of the get-away single motorcycle.
