Capiz to host 2007 regional BSP jamborette
ROXAS CITY--The Capiz Council of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) will host the 21st Western Visayas Regional Jamborette at Camp Escutin in Barangay Matagnop, Dao, Capiz on February 21-25 this year in coordination with the provincial government of Capiz and City of Roxas.
Capiz BSP Council Chairman city councilor Mark Ortiz said the Jamborette Organizing Committee and support staff are now preparing to welcome from 3,000 to 4,000 scouts and scouters from Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Bacolod City and the host province at the camp site located some 33 kilometers southwest of this city.
Ortiz said Capiz Gov. Vicente Bermejo and the 16 municipalities of the province through their respective mayors are all out in their support to the forthcoming scouting event.
Roxas City mayor Antonio Del Rosario and other city officials are also supportive of the regional activity.
Ortiz explained that through this jamborette the Filipino youth will be attracted to join the scouting movement as this will serve as a training ground for practical skills and future leadership for them.
The council chairman added that the scouting movement in the province is now on its 60th year since its founding in 1946. Although scouting here under the Boy Scouts of America was first started sometime in 1933, the scouting movement continued up to the present through a sustained and strong leadership.
