Negrenses eye share in 'high-end' overseas jobs for Filipinos
Bacolod City--The next three years will be brighter for Filipinos seeking employment abroad as the Department of Labor and Employment announces some 815,000 "high-end" jobs available overseas.
The announcement was made by Labor Secretary Arturo Brion revealing that as of December 31, 2006, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration has recorded 1.09 million Filipinos deployed overseas by the department.
These high end jobs include workers from the following industries: telecommunications, medical and construction industry particularly engineers, pipefitters, welders, painters, electricians and surveyors.
As countries like the Saudi Arabia and Japan continue to develop, skill workers from the Philippines will have more opportunities for overseas work. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia alone, according to labor attache to the region Rustico Dela Fuente, the king ordered the construction of four economic cities, each as large as that in Dubai.
In Japan, the anticipated retirement of its "baby-boomers" generation from this year to 2009, will need skilled workers for computer-aided designers, car designers and telecommunication engineers. This is aside from the 8,000 to 10,000 seafaring-officers according to Reydeluz Conferido, labor attache to Japan.
On the other hand, POEA- Negros has on record last year some 4,938 returning OFW"s in the province. The office has provided assistance to 137 clients who sought their help directly in processing their papers.
