Drilon won't run for Congress
Senator Franklin Drilon will not run for congressman of Iloilo City this coming May 14 election. This was disclosed by Governor Niel Tupas after their group's meeting last Friday.
Tupas said, in the meeting of the United Opposition group in the city and province of Iloilo which was attended by Senator Drilon the latter expressed that he will not run for congressman of the city erasing doubts about his rumored political plan.
Earlier, Drilon transferred his voter's registration from San Juan, Metro Manila to Iloilo City raising suspicions about his plan to run for congressman in the city.
Drilon in a radio interview, however, clarified that he is not backing out of the so-called congressional race as he has never declared that he would run in any local elective position.
Drilon admitted that his partymates wanted him to run against incumbent Congressman Raul Gonzalez Jr. or his father Justice Sec. Raul Gonzalez Sr. but he decided not to as he will concentrate on strengthening their senatorial line-up.
While eluding questions on his future political plans in Iloilo, Senator Drilon assured that whether he is in government office or not, he can still help the Ilonggos.
In the mayoralty race, Drilon said they will support comebacking Mayor Mansueto Malabor as their candidate versus incumbent Mayor Jerry Treñas.
But it was not yet known who will run for congressman in their group as well as their candidate for vice mayor and their line-up for councilors.
Drilon said they are still on the process of consultations with their leaders.
