San Jose de Buenavista nominated to National "Local Legislative Award"
San Jose, Antique -- The Municipality of San Jose de Buenavista was adjudged regional winner of the Local Legislative Award for 1st to 3rd class municipalities. It is also a nominee of Western Visayas to the national search, said Editha Tejares, Municipal Local Government Operations Officer of the town.
Rosario F. Maza, Provincial Director of DILG said that the Municipality of San Jose vested other towns in Region 6 in terms of effectiveness of legislative agenda and tracking system, availability of legislative documents and efficient performance of the Sanggunian. Quality of office set-up and staff complement is also one of the award criteria.
The award according to Maza is to give recognition to the legislative department of the local government unit that excel in legislating laws that ultimately contribute to the attainment of desirable socio-economic and environmental management outcomes.
The DILG also saw the need to create an award system that recognizes the exemplary performance of the Sanggunians in cities and municipalities for legislating measures that help build the foundation of meaningful local administration and development.
The award given to the Legislative department of San Jose de Buenavista led by Vice Mayor J T. Gabin is a challenge not only to the Sangguniang Bayan of their town but also to other municipalities to legislate laws that promote national development and are responsive to the needs of their constituents, said Maza.
Other towns nominated for the regional level search are Oton, and Miag-ao in Iloilo; La Castellana, Negros Occidental; Jordan Guimaras; and Dumarao, Capiz.
