Bigger prizes await Paraw winners
Bigger cash prizes are at stake for this year's winners of the 35th Paraw Regatta competition slated on February 18, 2007 at the Tatoy's Manokan as the starting point of the race. The race is expected to draw up number of participants particularly those from the island-province of Guimaras.
This year's organizers led by Manuel Villa Jr., chair of the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation, has prepared bigger cash prizes for the events included in the Paraw Regatta. The events include the Class A distance race, Class B distance race, mini-paraw race, samba regatta and Miss Paraw.
The cash prizes for the Class A distance race totaled to P66,000 excluding the prizes for finishers of the race. For the Class A, the first prize is P12,000 plus P6,000 with painted sail; 2nd prize P8,000 plus P4,000 with painted sail; 3rd P6,000 plus P3,000 with painted sail; 4th prize P5,000 plus P2,000 with painted sail; 5th prize P4,000 plus P1,000 with painted sail and 6th prize until 10th prizes P2,000 plus P1,000 with painted sail. The finishers prize is P600.
The prizes for Class B is much bigger compared with Class A. The 1st prize for the Class B is P15,000 plus P7,000 with painted sail; 2nd prize P12,000 plus P5,000 with painted sail; 3rd prize P10,000 plus P4,000 with painted sail; 4th prize P8,000 plus P3,000 with painted sail; 5th P5,000 plus P2,000 with painted sail; 6th prize until 7th prize is P2,000 plus P1,000 painted sail. The finishers prize is P600.
There are also cash prizes for the mini-paraw race. However, the cash prizes will depend on the category. The 1st prize is P3,000 to P1,000; 2nd prize P1,500 to P700 and 3rd prize P750 to P500. The mini paraw race was held last Sunday at the Tatoy's-Villa Beach.
The foundation also prepared prizes for the samba regatta and search for Miss Paraw. The 1st prize for the samba regatta is P20,000; 2nd P10,000 and 3rd P5,000. The winner for the Miss Paraw will receive a cash prize of P10,000; 2nd - P7,000 and 3rd - P5,000.
