Comelec asks candidates to observe rules on posting of campaign materials
With the start of the campaign period for the national elective posts for the May 14 elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged the candidates to follow the guidelines on the common poster areas and sizes of campaign materials.
City Comelec Election Officer II Jonathan Sayno said the commission has designated poster areas for national, local and party list groups. The common poster areas include portions of each district plaza and supporters of each candidate must observe on where to place or hang their campaign materials.
In Molo district, the poster areas are located across the Consing residence, Caltex and near Mercury Drug Stores. In Arevalo, common poster areas are in Osmeña and Rizal Streets; (Mandurriao) Oñate and Q. Abeto Streets, (Jaro) Rizal; (Lapaz) Burgos, Huervana across Lapaz Maternity Clinic; (Lapuz) Abanilla Street and near Lapuz National High School and (City Proper) in Plaza Libertad and PNB.
Sayno said under the Fair Election Act the poster of each candidate should not exceed by 2x3 meters, pamphlets/stickers 8 ½ x 14 inches and streamers with 3x8 meters. Names of donors, political party or address should also be printed in all campaign materials.
Candidates are also allowed to place their streamers five days before the scheduled rally and all campaign materials should be removed 24 hours after the rally.
Sayno said supporters of the candidates should be aware of the rules and guideline in the distribution and placement of campaign materials. Any campaign materials placed in non-Comelec designated poster areas will be removed by the Task Force Kiskis Alis.
The task force is headed by Atty. Elizabeth Doronila, provincial Comelec and concurrent city Comelec registrar. The vice chair of the task force is Senior Supt. Wesley Barayuga, Iloilo City Police Office director and with City DILG head Helen Mestidio as member.
