Fisherman missing after boat capsized
A fishermen is still missing after his boat capsized off the waters of Higantes Sur in Isla de Higantes, Carles town early dawn Monday. He is believed to be washed ashore in Roxas or Bantayan Island.
Kagawad Roger Marcelo identified the missing person as Zaldy Marindoque of Barangay Granada, Carles. His 18-meter boat was recovered by fishing crews of a commercial fishing boat based in Bantayan, at about 4 in the morning of February 19.
Marcelo surmised that Marindoque's boat might have hit the fishing net of a commercial fishing boat and it caused his boat to capsize. He added that Marindoque was alone when he went to the waters of Higantes to catch squid.
When residents of the barangay learned of Marindoque's fate, they scourged the seas but found nothing until Tuesday noon. Marcelo added that Marindoque does not know how to swim though he is into squid catching. Marindoque hails from Masbate but married a resident of Brgy. Granada.
The barangay official asked for the help of the residents of nearby islands to immediately report to the police if they find the fisherman's body.
