Tanods to help in drive vs. 'akyat bahay'
To combat the increasing number of “akyat bahay” robbery cases in the city, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) will be tapping the help of members of the Civilian Volunteers Organization or barangay tanods in conducting foot patrol and monitoring in their respective barangays.
ICPO Director Senior Supt. Wesley Barayuga said he had already met with the barangay officials of Jaro district for the said plan. The districts of Jaro and La Paz are placed in the top priority of the city police because of the rampant “akyat bahay” cases in said areas.
Barayuga together with the city's six station commanders were called last week by Mayor Jerry Treñas over the increasing number of “akyat-bahay” cases.
Treñas lamented that despite the increasing number of “akyat bahay” cases the police has not arrested nor identified any suspects.
As a result, Barayuga said additional policemen will make rounds especially in subdivisions to deter the occurrence of robbery cases and shun the perpetrators from committing such crime. Motorcycle riding cops and one patrol jeep will join the group.
The city police director also said they are asking the homeowners association to also formulate measures wherein they can secure their residences.
He suggested that the homeowners should also cooperate in the conduct of the nightly “ronda” or surveillance by the barangay tanods.
