DA turn-over P1.8 M RSL center
The Department of Agriculture turned-over recently the Resource Services and Livelihood center worth P1.8 million pesos to the municipal government of Pres. Roxas, Capiz.
OIC-Regional Executive Director Larry P. Nacionales of DA 6 said that the project will enable the farmers and fishers to equipped themselves of the new technologies to enhance product ability and profitability.
He stressed that the six-point agenda of Secretary Arthur C. Yap will guide the farmers to maximize production and increase income.
The six point agenda are market access through the establishment of the farm-to-market roads (FMR) where farmers have easy way to bring their produce to the bagsakan center, Irrigation considered as an important factor in the increase of production, since water is the source of life, and post harvest facilities in order to reduce losses in production
"The microfinance will help farmers avail of loans to have more capital for their livelihood projects, while the Research, Development and Extension will lead to discoveries of new methods and approaches that are disseminated to farmers such as the use of hybrid varieties and organic farming, finally, Income crop diversification planting of not only one crop but two or more such as corn after rice and legume after rice for them to have added income," Dir. Nacionales said.
Mayor Raymund S. Locsin of Pres. Roxas, Cadiz stressed that the development center will provide the farmers and fisherfolks a venue for enhancing their capabilities and skills in order to increase their income.
The center is located in Barangay Cabug-Cabug some 1.5 kilometer from the poblacion and surrounded by a demonstration farm planted with eggplants, bottle gourd (kalubay), pechay and papaya. There is also a poultry that houses the Darag or native chicken, a piggery, goat raising and biogas production.
The building cost was P1.8 M pesos, P887,000.00 of which came from the National Agricultural and Fishery Council(NAFC) and P300,000.00 was counterpart of LGU.
